Earth Week

Page history last edited by Judith Shorrocks 6 mos ago

During the week of April 20th, 2009, the ABC celebrated  the Earth, Claudia Lars and Salvador Salarrué as a part of both Earth Week, and National Reading week initiatives. Through a series of Earth friendly workshops, students were able to participate in making recycled paper, using recycled materials as covers, building recycled bottle walls, finding carbon footprints and planting a tree.  Students and teachers who participated had a great time and learned a great deal about taking better care of the Earth. These activities ran simoultaneously to El Salvador's National Reading week which spotlighted the lives and works of two famous Salvadoran writers, Claudia Lars and Salvador Salarrué. Please scroll down to read more about the weeks activities and view photos and videos.

The kids and teachers loved making the garbage covers for books and boxes. The displays went up very quickly and the plastic bottle walls have begun to grow. Making Paper was so much fun we are doing it again next week!

 Tree Planting

Several years ago a beautiful tree grew in the garden in front of the old Senior Library. Unfortunately it was no longer healthy and had to be cut down. In honour of this tree and Earth Week, members of the ABC planted a new tree in the garden on Friday April 24th, 2009.
